Energy transition and the impact on businesses in the Netherlands
Clamp between sustainability, electrification and grid congestion
The rollout of the energy transition is now in full swing. However, the totality of regulations, subsidies, new technology and adoption by businesses and consumers is creating bottlenecks that will not be solved overnight. With solar and wind as the two main renewable energy sources, electricity is becoming the largest common denominator in the energy mix. That means the electricity grid, which was built to function alongside the infrastructure for gas and oil, suddenly becomes the carrier for many more applications. Companies do want to switch to green power, solar panels, electric cars and electric equipment, but the power grid cannot handle it and is severely congested.
Grid congestion colors the capacity map of the Netherlands almost entirely red and, according to regional grid operators, it will take decades to resolve. The alternative that is being heavily pursued is local, homegrown generation and energy storage.
Broad impact on businesses
Mandatory standards, tailored to business activities in virtually every sector, are making companies look for solutions to comply with regulations in the most cost-effective way. Incentives and subsidies also create possibilities and new opportunities. For example, the transportation sector is fully engaged in electrification, as is the construction sector.
And in producing sectors, from manufacturing and food to agriculture and greenhouse horticulture, the focus is on the highest possible energy efficiency, as the cost of energy weighs heavily on cost prices. What is central to the transition from fossil energy to renewable energy is wide application of innovative technology.
Installation companies as a vital link
A vital link in the application of sustainable technology is the installation industry. As an in-house installer, but certainly also as a project partner in large projects, installation companies are indispensable for delivering all sustainable technology in working order. The challenge, therefore, is to keep up on all fronts. At Intercel, we understand that it is impossible for an installation company to be a specialist in everything.
That’s why we are the specialist you build on as an installer when it comes to energy storage systems. From orientation and advice to customized solutions, turnkey delivery and maintenance, we help you achieve successful projects and satisfied customers.
